Li-ion batteries from ebikes typically last between 3-5 years. This will depend on environmental conditions, maintenance and various other factors. Once your battery reaches the end of its life, it’s important to ensure the lithium waste is recycled into new products.
An e-bike battery’s capacity, measured in watt hours (Wh), typically ranges from 300Wh to 700Wh, depending on factors like terrain and assistance level. Modern eBikes primarily use lithium-ion battery cells for their efficiency and durability. When charging the battery, expect it to take 3 to 6 hours depending on the charger and battery size.
Lithium-ion batteries are rated for 500 to 1,000 charge cycles, meaning they can handle that many full charges before their capacity decreases. To maximise battery life, it’s important to store the battery at around 50% charge level and avoid extreme temperatures.
Different battery types like nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) and lead-acid are available but less common. Lithium-ion remains the most popular choice due to its better performance and longer lifespan.
